Again the focus is on defense for the Houston Texans with the 13th overall pick because if Derek Stingley Jr. drops to this spot in the 2022 NFL Draft he’d be a tough player for the Texans to pass on. The Texans need more help with their secondary, and by adding a cornerback that will only help Desmond King II and Lonnie Johnson Jr. this upcoming season.

Houston had injuries the past couple seasons with their secondary and it showed at times during pivotal moments in games last season. The play of the defense hampered the play of the offense, but the tables can be turned as the offense didn’t help the play of the defense much either.

By adding a player with the potential that Stingley has it would change the direction of the secondary from the moment his name is called by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Stingley could be drafted before the 13th pick arrives on the board, but adding a cornerback who had 3.5 sacks in three games played last season, and a cornerback who finished his collegiate career of 25 games with six interceptions and 20 passes defensed, that would be a game-changer for the Texans in ’22. The defense would instantly improve.

There will most likely be a learning curve for the future rookie in the early stages of his career, but the Texans in their rebuild need to draft players who can become difference makers. Stingley, if on the board at 13th overall, would be a very solid and smart choice made by GM Nick Caserio and the Houston Texans.
