According to a direct report from the Houston Texans themselves, they've just activated speedy-wide receiver Jaylin Noel off of the NFL's Non-Football Injury list ahead of today's training camp session.

It's the end of a short stint on the shelf for the former Iowa State Cyclone, as Noel has been sidelined for only the first week of training camp with a pinky injury sustained while catching passes before the opening of camp. Now that Houston's second-year vertical slot presence is back, the receiving corps. is only a Tank Dell activation away from having its full complement of offensive skill position players for the first time since the 2024 regular season.

In the meantime, Noel will get the chance to make up for lost time alongside his offensive counterparts in training camp. Fans should be excited about what Noel could represent for this offense, as I believe that we haven't even whiffed the tip of the Iceberg when it comes to the potential of Houston's diminutive dynamo.

Jaylin Noel could be a secret weapon for the Houston Texans' offense in 2026

On the surface, Noel really didn't get as much attention as many fans would've hoped in year one. While he had a few splash plays here and there against teams like the Baltimore Ravens, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and even the Los Angeles Chargers, Noel really struggled with receiving consistent opportunties in the passing game behind players like Christian Kirk (now with the 49ers).

However, the advanced stats reveal that Noel was one of the most valuable receiving threats on the team in spite of ranking seventh in targets (35) and 10th in target % (17.4). According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Noel finished the 2025 season with these positional standings on the team:

  • Routes run: 201 (seventh-most)
  • Receiving yards per route run: 1.5 (fourth-highest)
  • Expected points added per reception: +12.9 (fourth-highest)
  • Expected points added per target: +0.37 (third-highest)
  • Deep target rate (over 20-plus air yards): 22.9% (second-highest)

Translation: Explosive things happened when Noel had the football in his hands. The issue for Noel now is shaking the narrative that he's "just another deep threat" in the NFL, which I believe is most of the reason for his inconsistent use in the offense last season.

That's why Noel getting as many active reps as he can in the offseason will be vital for his continued development in the offense of coordinator Nick Caley. An emphasis on spacial awareness, finding soft spots in zone coverage, being available to quarterback C.j. Stroud on off-schedule plays and properly handling option-route opportunties will be a lot of the what Noel needs to master in order to be a featured contributor in his second season.

I believe that Noel can be so much more than a return specialist in Houston. His activation for his first training camp opportunity in 2026 can prove that confidence to be accurate.
