There's an argument to be made that Houston Texans edge rusher Danielle Hunter is one of the most underrated players at his position of the modern era. This sentiment was confirmed today by his own peers, as Hunter appeared at 23rd-overall on this year's NFL Top 100 list.
Los Angeles Rams guard Steve Avila expressed his thoughts on Hunter's lack of league-wide recognition by stating,
"It's special. Like, to get double-digit sacks is hard in this league, man. He's been doing it on a consistent basis, and I don't think he gets enough recognition."
That's an understatement. Hunter has eclipsed the 10-plus sacks mark seven times in his 10 previous NFL seasons, with him currently riding a four-year streak from the 2022 season to this past campaign (2025). He's also been an ironman, as he's played in 14-plus games in nine of his 10 previous years (his only single-digit campaign was seven games played in the 2021 season due to a torn pectoral muscle).
The former LSU Tiger has been a model of consistent dominance since he entered the league as a third-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings, which is evidenced by him also having the sixth-most sacks among active players with 114.5. One can strongly argue that this latest accomplishment shows that he's not slowing down anytime soon.

His offensive counterpart in Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud heaped more compliments on the multi-time All-Pro during the reveal when he said,
Literally the Terminator. Looks like they built him in a factory. And they're just saying, 'Hey, you want to put together a pass rusher, a defensive end,' and then he comes out in a box."
At 31 years old, Hunter still looks like a player who's got about a decade of runway left in his career. Standing at 6-foot-5, 263 pounds and appearing chiseled out of marble, Hunter has astonished his teammates with his rare combination of ferocity and finesse since his arrival in Houston two seasons ago. Since then, he's racked up 100 total tackles, 27 sacks, three forced fumbles, three passes defended, one Pro Bowl and one Second-Team All-Pro nod.
He was then handed a fully guaranteed one-year, $40.1 million extension by the Texans this offseason to keep him and position mate Will Anderson Jr. together through at least the 2027 season. With that level of financial commitment and security invested in Hunter, there are no concerns from the organization about what they expect from the prolific defensive end.
Hopefully, his efforts contribute towards a championship parade for the first time in team history.
