The Houston Texans are continuing their draft process for the 2020 NFL Draft, and a name that could be on their big board is edge rusher Josh Uche of Michigan.

The Houston Texans must address their edge rush this offseason, and as started in previous looks at 2020 NFL Draft prospects, there are options available for a few players to select in the second round. One of those players is Michigan Wolverine Josh Uche.

In a recent mock draft by NFLMocks.com of the FanSided network, Uche was drafted in the second round by the Texans, where Dan Schmelzer wrote the following on the pass rusher from Michigan:

"“Uche is a long and athletic edge rusher who shows an explosive first step and incredible bend around the edge. Uche shines as a wide speed rusher who can win with his immediate explosion.”"

Reading about a player like Uche in that aforementioned description of his overall play makes for some excitement in the second round, as the Texans could really use a player who can rush from the edge with an explosive first step.

Remember, the Texans face a tough offensive line twice a season in the Tennessee Titans, who have two of the very best offensive tackles protecting the edge in Jack Conklin at right tackle and Taylor Lewan at left tackle.

Having players who can get past those two superstar linemen is key for the Texans winning a third straight AFC South championship because even though the Texans won the division title, the Titans went to the AFC championship game, having much more success in the playoffs compared to the Texans.

Continuing with the next step in the offseason draft process, the NFL Combine is later this month, and for Josh Uche, his stock could rise when that event is complete. In a combine preview for the Detroit Lions, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News had this to say about the play of Uche:

"“But as a pure pass-rusher, he was a force at the Senior Bowl, where the Lions got an extended look at the former Wolverine. To get him on the field more, he could always play off-ball on early downs.”"

Even Pro Football Focus has taken notice of Uche, as the football website graded Uche as the highest-graded player at the Senior Bowl.

For his senior season at Michigan, Uche totaled 23 solo tackles, 8.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and even had two passes defensed.

Michael Renner of PFF.com had the following to say about the play of Uche the past season at Michigan:

"“The second is that the majority of his production at Michigan, in obvious pass-rushing situations, came as a stand-up rusher on the interior.”"

Though Uche isn’t as touted as those named Chase Young of Ohio State and A.J. Epenesa of Iowa, the Texans could be taking a close look at the Michigan pass rusher because of the fact they really need to start thinking about the future of their pass rush, plus improving it compared to last season.

The Texans are close to getting where they want to be. They have made changes to their defensive coordinator, they have decided on who their official general manager is, and now it is time for all the correct decisions to be made, and adding Uche could be one of those correct decisions.
