Report: Jay Cutler spoke with Texans, Jets
So the Houston Texans did talk to Jay Cutler.
There have been reports that the Texans decided to go with quarterback Tom Savage as their starter rather than signing free agent Jay Cutler after the Chicago Bears released him earlier this offseason.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported last week that the Texans went as far as to ignore Cutler’s calls.
News broke on Friday morning that Cutler has signed with FOX Sports to serve as an NFL analyst.
But ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Texans did speak with Cutler. Which coincides with the fact that Houston general manager Rick Smith says they didn’t ignore him.
I’m kind of surprised the Jets weren’t interested in signing Cutler. They must be ready to roll with their younger quarterbacks.

When it comes to the Texans, I was all for them signing Cutler, but they no longer need him or Colin Kaepernick now that they have Deshaun Watson.
Cutler is making the right decision by retiring. He’s not going to get a starting job anywhere in the NFL and he’s not getting any younger. Now he can start a new chapter as a TV analyst.
