What If the Houston Texans select Johnny Manziel?

With the 2014 NFL Draft just one day away, it is time to ask ourselves … “What If?”

As in: What if the Houston Texans select Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel with the No. 1 overall selection?

Will Johnny Manziel be an NFL success?

If the Texans were to select Manziel No. 1 overall it would mean they will have pushed all of their chips to the middle of the table, and are gambling on that the former Heisman Trophy winner is, in fact, the next big thing in the NFL.

It would mean the Texans will have drafted the quarterback they wanted, and it would be they would be making him the face of the franchise.

Plus it would be an entire different style of football for not only the Texans organization, but for the offense of new Texans head coach Bill O’Brien, because Manziel doesn’t fit the mold of an O’Brien style of quarterback for his offensive scheme.

So would it be a good decision on the Texans’ part if they were to draft a QB that has been described as both a prospect who can have success in the NFL as a signal caller, all the way to a QB who has just completed three years of “backyard football” as QB of Texas A&M?

I’m not sure anymore.

More from Houston Texans Draft

This is what makes Manziel so interesting in this entire 2014 NFL Draft process … what type of QB is he really?

It is no secret he’ll have to change some of his current style of play to be a success in the NFL.

Readers of this site, at least 78-percent of the 800-plus who voted in out poll last week, want Manziel as the next QB of the Texans. Most of the others want the Texans to draft South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney No. 1 overall.

So back to the “What If” with Manziel and the Texans.

My guess is if the Texans do indeed draft Manziel, they will be an improved football team, but, and here is where many will disagree with me, I just don’t believe he’ll make the Texans good enough to become a Super Bowl champion.

With all of that said … what is your opinion if the Texans select Manziel with the No. 1 overall selection?
