The Houston Texans may have finally chalked up a win after taking down the division rival Tennessee Titans in a dominant shutout performance, but that doesn't mean everyone on that team will be along for the ride in Week 5. Offensive lineman Cam Robinson needs to pack his bags.
Houston has traded Robinson to the Cleveland Browns in a swap of late 2027 NFL Draft Picks. A late-round pick swap like this is often general manager code for "let's get this guy out of town as fast as possible" in the modern NFL, as Nick Caserio seemingly didn't want to keep the veteran around much longer.
This move comes across as a bit odd for Houston. Offloading Robinson may not be ideal for a team that has had consistently terrible offensive line play this season, but doing so while getting a paltry return of draft picks seems to be a bit puzzling in the moment.
Texans trade backup OT Cam Robinson to Browns for draft pick
Robinson has played in three games this season, starting one before eventually losing his starting job after signing a big contract in the offseason. While the fact that he couldn't maintain a starting role on this shambolic offensive line is concerning, was offloading veteran depth like this for a minimally valuable pick years from now worth it?
Robinson, who spent parts of eight seasons as a locked-in starter with the division rival Jacksonville Jaguars, will head to a Browns team that has had some of the worst tackle play in the league. He will get to start immediately, while Houston moves forward with their ragtag bunch.
Aireontae Ersery and Tytus Howard will be locked in as the two starters at the tackle spots, with Blake Fisher providing swing depth. Without Robinson, look for former Pro Bowler and longtime veteran Trent Brown to possibly earn an elevation from the practice squad as a replacement.
The Laremy Tunsil trade hasn't necessarily been a major boon for the Washington Commanders, but it has left the Texans in a state of disarray despite some tremendous defensive performances. Trading Robinson might come back to bite them if they get unlucky with injuries.
