Texans: Caserio talks about what’s most important with NFL Draft 2022
The Houston Texans have some big decisions to make next week.
At least Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio isn’t keeping everything to himself when it comes to the 2022 NFL Draft as he spoke with Texans media on Thursday, one week before the start of the ’22 NFL Draft.
Caserio spoke candidly about how it could be tough for the Texans to trade away the third pick as most teams might not be interested in that pick, and the same could be said for the 13th overall pick as well.
One of the more interesting things for the Texans is what the general manager said was the most important when it comes to the team and the ’22 NFL Draft. Next are comments made by Caserio about what is most important when it comes to the draft with transcripts provided by HoustonTexans.com:
"“I think the most important thing is just try to continue to build the team. That’s the most important thing, and to not get too caught up in the short term, where a player is picked, who the player is.”"
Caserio continued with more about players joining the franchise and what’s expected of them:
"“The most important thing for any new player that comes in our building, rookie, veteran, second-year player is work hard, be a good teammate, be selfless, put the team first and just try to make progress and try to develop your individual skillset more importantly than anything else.”"
What the Texans’ front office expects from the players they sign and draft is nothing new, and next week’s draft will be no different, as Caserio stated.
Texans: Which players would help the franchise from Day 1?
As we all continue to think about the Texans’ ’22 NFL Draft, what comes to mind the most is this team needs to add defense and another wide receiver within their first five picks of the draft, which all come within the first 80 selections.
The Texans must draft secondary and a wide receiver within the first two rounds, as there is a vast amount of talent at those positions, and adding an EDGE player in those first three picks wouldn’t be such a bad idea, either.
There are a number of ways the Texans could go with those first three picks (No. 3, No. 13, No. 37) as EDGE could be great at No. 3 (Kayvon Thibodeaux of Oregon ), followed with a secondary player at No. 13 (Maybe Derek Stingley Jr of LSU) and wide receiver at No. 37 (possibly Penn State’s Jahan Dotson).
That is what makes this year’s draft so great is there are a number of ways the Texans can add to their roster through this draft just by keeping the picks they have. This is the most exciting the NFL Draft has been for the Texans in quite some time, and it is good to know exactly what Caserio wants in a player when they join the Texans.
Which players do you want the Texans to draft, and do you think those players will be joining the Texans next weekend? Let us know who you want the Texans to take at No. 3, No. 13, and No. 37 overall!
