Houston Texans re-sign Christian Kirksey in depth move
Christian Kirksey is going to run it back with the Houston Texans.
Christian Kirksey is one of the more solid players on the Houston Texans. In fact, it was a bit surprising that the Green Bay Packers let him go in the first place. However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler announced on Friday that Kirksey would be staying with the Texans after re-signing a two-year contract.
This keeps Kirksey on the roster through the 2024 season. Talk about securing the short-term future at linebacker. Kirksey had 93 combined tackles (55 solo) and one interception this season for the Houston Texans in 13 games.
Kirksey was a third-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2014 draft- he has also played for Green Bay,
Christian Kirksey is the first Houston Texans linebacker to be re-signed, but what’s next?
Kirksey had some excellent plays in 2021, but his play was nothing to write home about. So, with Kirksey officially signed, what will the Texans do with Kamu Grugier-Hill? Referenced hereafter as KGH, KGH was easily the best linebacker on the team and in on almost every single tackle.
KGH could seek a team that’s in a better position, as it’s not likely he’ll stick around for the rebuild that will take a few years at the minimum. Unless Houston is going to give him a blank check, KGH could easily be with a playoff team in a heartbeat.
Kirksey would have to fill in for KGH and would do a pretty good job of doing so. It’s alright if that happens, as the trenches need a lot of attention if this team is going to win more than four games on the season in 2022.
