Houston Texans: Season preview and predictions 2021
By Mitch Hill
How much success will the Houston Texans have in the 2021 NFL season?
The Houston Texans finished with a 2-1 record in 2021 NFL preseason. After the final roster cuts down to the 53-man roster, general manager Nick Caserio is preaching process rather than results.
The offseason for the Houston Texans has been a roller coaster. With the Deshaun Watson situation not fully figured out both on-and-off the field, and the flurry of wide receiver cuts for the team, it is fair to say that the Texans will be fighting an uphill battle in many of their games throughout the ’21 regular season.
The AFC South is full of questions and the Houston Texans are at the forefront of that discussion. Who will be the Texans quarterback at the end of the season? How many current players will still be on the Texans after the trade deadline?
Who will come out as the number one running back? One question that can be answered for the Texans is that Tyrod Taylor will suit up as the starting quarterback this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars at NRG Stadium.
Here is a final preview and prediction for every game for the Houston Texans this regular season.
WEEK 1
vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 12
- Time: noon CST
- TV: CBS
The Houston Texans host the Jacksonville Jaguars at NRG Stadium for an intriguing Week 1 matchup. They welcome the 2021 first overall pick Trevor Lawrence to Houston for his regular season debut. What helps the Texans is the fact that with the inexperience on both sides of the ball for the Jaguars, mistakes are bound to happen.
If the Texans defense can bring pressure to Lawrence and exploit their downfalls on the defensive side good things can come of this matchup.
Prediction: Texans win (1-0)
WEEK 2
at Cleveland Browns
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 19
- Time: noon CST
- TV: CBS
The Week 2 matchup against the Browns is where reality will start to set in for the Houston Texans as they face off against Baker Mayfield and company in Cleveland.
A team that is coming off of their first playoff appearance in 18 years will look to get off to a hot start in ’21. Expect Mayfield and the Browns new-look offense to make Houston’s defense work extra hard in this game
Prediction: Texans loss (1-1)
