The Houston Texans have traded away another cornerback before the 2021 season begins.

It is being reported by Ian Rapoport there has been a trade made between the Houston Texans  and the New Orleans Saints, and the player traded away from the Texans is cornerback Bradley Roby.

Roby is currently serving a suspension from last season due to a positive PED test in ’20, as he still has one game remaining from that suspension. That being said he’ll be traded to the Saints and available in Week 2 for that franchise.

The reported Houston Texans trade came from a tweet by Rapoport as he started the following:

Roby is a solid cornerback who joined the Houston Texans in 2019, but never played a full season for the team. In both ’19 and ’20 he played 10 games each season, all starts. In ’20 with the Texans, Roby totaled 33 solo tackles (37 total) with two tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, seven passes defensed, and one interception.

In his first season with the Texans (2019) Roby totaled to interceptions, one touchdown, eight passes defensed, one forced fumble, one sack, 35 solo tackles, two TFL, and a QB hit. Before joining the Texans, Roby played five seasons with the Denver Broncos from 2014-18.

Aaron Wilson makes an excellent point in a tweet about the Roby trade, and that is they are clearing up a lot of cap space. He’s reporting the Houston Texans are saving $9.2 million with this trade.

Houston Texans: 4 cornerbacks have been traded this offseason

Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio isn’t playing around this offseason because he’s making trade after trade, and nobody is safe to stay on the roster, especially if you play cornerback.

Cornerbacks who have been traded include: Ka’dar Hollman for a seventh round pick to the Green Bay Packers, John Reid for a seventh round pick to the Seattle Seahawks, and Keion Crossen to the New York Giants for a ’23 sixth round pick. It has’t been reported what the Texans will receive i the Roby trade.

With this reported trade, the Houston Texans cornerback depth chart now includes the following players: Desmond King II, Tavierre Thomas, Terrance Mitchell, Vernon Hargreaves III, and Tremon Smith. This practice squad includes: Antonio Phillips and Shyheim Carter.

Roby is a solid player and was having a good season in ’20 until his suspension happened. Now with a new general manager, new head coach, and a new defense Roby became expendable for this season, as the Texans keep working on their rebuild.
