Houston Texans 53-man roster predictions post-2020 NFL Draft
Running Backs (4), Fullback (1)
David Johnson, Duke Johnson, Karan Higdon, Scottie Phillips (R), Cullen Gillaspia (FB)
The Houston Texans news this offseason for running backs has been plentiful with the departure of both Carlos Hyde and Lamar Miller to free agency after they didn’t receive a contract offer. Those two combined to start at running back for the Texans the past four seasons.
New to the roster is David Johnson, whom the Texans traded for in the DeAndre Hopkins deal, as he’ll be the main focal point at running back this season. Johnson started half of the season last year with the Arizona Cardinals before losing that spot to Kenyon Drake.
Also in the prediction for running backs who will make the roster are Duke Johnson, Karan Higdon and undrafted rookie Scottie Phillips. Duke Johnson is of great importance for the Texans this season because he’s played in the system for a year, and teammate David Johnson is new to the organization.
Duke Johnson is a reliable player to have on the roster, and in a reserve role for David Johnson, there is the stability of having a veteran ready to go if something were to happen to the starter.
Higdon is a good third running back to have on the depth chart as he already knows the system and can contribute when needed. The undrafted rookie Phillips is the surprise choice to make this roster, and don’t be surprised to see him play special teams. If the Texans decide to keep a fullback for their offense, it will be Cullen Gillapsia, who played his first season with the franchise last year after being a seventh-round pick.
