The Houston Texans aren’t scheduled to make a selection in the 2020 NFL Draft until the 57th overall pick arrives. Who are some of the players that could be available at that point of the draft?

When looking at the current roster of the Houston Texans early in the offseason, there are valid reasons in saying the Texans could go a variety of routes when it comes to selecting a player with their first pick — the 57th overall selection — in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Texans have a wide variety of ways they can travel when making a selection.

There are some very solid players available in this draft, especially in the second round, so missing out on the first round this year isn’t so bad in the overall scheme of the draft as the Texans do have eight selections in this draft.

That is said especially when the team is set with a franchise quarterback (Deshaun Watson), a franchise left tackle in Laremy Tunsil (at least for the 2020 season), and a potential Hall of Fame-level wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins on their offense alone.

Add those stars with one of the best defensive ends in the entire NFL — when healthy — and some other solid core players, and the Texans aren’t that far off in adding to their roster.

There is no doubt the Texans do need to improve because the AFC is strong, and even more so than that, the route to the Super Bowl will most likely go through the Kansas City Chiefs once again.

Houston could add a very solid running back in the second round, or they could go the defensive tackle route if they don’t re-sign D.J. Reader as he’s going to demand a large contract. The Texans could also add a pass rusher in the second round, and don’t forget about making the secondary better too, though free agency might be the route to travel in this conversation.

Next are five players whom the Texans could realistically select with the 57th overall pick if these individuals are still available when it is the Texans’ time to make a choice at the 2020 NFL Draft.
