Texans vs. Chiefs: 3 Bold predictions for Deshaun Watson vs. Patrick Mahomes
2. Watson will break under 200-yard trend from this season
Have you realized a small trend for Deshaun Watson this season is every time he earns a game of at least 250 yards passing the following game he’s held to under 200 yards passing? It might not be a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but the Texans are 1-1 in the games when Watson is under 200 yards in the air.
In those sub 200-yard passing performances (two games) Watson has been sacked a total of 10 times, but in the games where Watson has thrown over 200 yards in the air he’s been sacked eight times, including zero times last Sunday.
The Chiefs are allowing 237.2 yards per game passing which is 13th in the league, meaning Watson is on the edge of breaking the aforementioned trend. The reason Watson will pass for over 200 yards, in fact he’ll pass for 300 yards in this game, is Watson his hitting his stride as a as Top 10 quarterback, and he has to be motivated in facing one of the quarterbacks he was drafted with in Patrick Mahomes.
Watson will be facing a secondary that includes Kendall Fuller and Bashaud Breeland at cornerback and safeties Tyrann Mathieu and Juan Thornhill.
Both of those quarterbacks will have excellent games, and if a shootout doesn’t happen it would be surprising. Then again, nothing is guaranteed, though expect Watson to have another very good game, but it most likely won’t be for 426 yards and five touchdowns good.
