The Houston Texans are scheduled to have three picks on Day 2 of the 2019 NFL Draft, including two picks in the second round.

After a first round where the Houston Texans added offensive tackle Tytus Howard with the 23rd overall selection of the 2019 NFL Draft, Day 2 should be just as exciting as there are plenty of players left for the Texans to add to improve their roster.

The lone cornerback taken in the first round was Georgia’s DeAndre Baker, who was selected 30th overall by the New York Giants, and that is very good news for the Texans because they are in need of adding to their secondary at the cornerback position.

More from Houston Texans Draft

Houston currently holds the 54th and 55th overall selections in the second round of the draft tonight, plus in the third round they are in possession of the 87th overall selection, giving them three really good chances to add quality players to their roster. They also have the ability to move up in the second round if there is a player they especially want to add to their roster.

When the Texans drafted Howard with the 23rd overall pick, some were surprised as the franchise passed on some other strong offensive tackle options, but upon further review, it seems like the Texans have been eyeing Howard all along and got one of the first-round targets they coveted.

What about the second round? Who might be some of the players the Texans are looking to add to the secondary or elsewhere on the roster?

If the Texans are really wanting to add to their offensive line, there are still three highly graded offensive linemen still on the draft board in Jawaan Taylor (Florida), Cody Ford (Oklahoma) and Dalton Risner (Kansas State).

There are also some strong candidates on the draft board who had a first-round evaluation at cornerback too, with some of those players being Greedy Williams (LSU), Byron Murphy (Washington) and Rock Ya-Sin (Temple), Also don’t overlook Justin Layne (Michigan State) at cornerback or Julian Love of Notre Dame because they should be selected in the second round of the draft on Friday night.

When it comes to the highest-rated remaining cornerback left on the draft board, Williams of LSU will not make it out of the second round, and my guess is the Texans would have to trade up in the second round if they want to add him to their roster.

In a CBSSports.com draft scouting report it says the following of Williams:

"“Can blanket receivers when he’s locked but other times looks to lack focus. NFL source: ‘He won’t tackle anybody,’ which could turn off some teams picking high in the draft.”"

Williams is coming off a final season at LSU where he had two interceptions, one against Auburn, but that was the third game of the season. Williams should be able to become a solid pro for whichever team drafts him, but most likely his ability to make tackles will have to be worked on as well.

Going into Day 2 of the NFL Draft, the Texans have some tough and important decisions to make, but on the other hand, they also have some very good players remaining on the draft board who should be able to fall to them with their back-to-back picks in the second round.

Day 2 of the draft will be exciting for Texans fans and should be a fun way to spend a Friday night as some new talented players will be joining the roster of the franchise in a matter of hours.
