The San Diego Fleet running backs

Ja’quan Gardner Week 3 stats: 12 carries, 122 yards, 2 receptions, 21 receiving yards

Terrell Watson Week 3 stats: 13 carries, 73 yards, 2 two-point conversions, 1 reception, 3 yards

Two is better than one right?

Ja’quan Gardner and Terrell Watson had a field day against the San Antonio Commanders’ front seven, but they couldn’t have been more different. On one hand, Davis is a bruising back with NFL experience and 6-1, 240-pound frame.

On the other hand, Gardner is a 5-7, 208-pound back out of Humboldt State with little NFL experience. However, he’s the one that made the highlight reels with an explosive 83-yard touchdown run.

I said he reminds me of Tarik Cohen last week, and I’m sticking with it, but adding another dimension to the comparison. He also has a bit of Maurice Jones-Drew in him, and it’s not just because they share a similar stature and number. Both have excellent balance, a well built lower frame, and explosiveness on the first step.

His teammate, Watson couldn’t be more different. Watson earned Pro Football Focus’ honor of best running back of week 3, as he finished with a solid 72.0 grade.

He broke a total of four tackles, and finished with 57 yards out of 73 after contact, per Pro Football Focus. He wasn’t the star of the show, but his 5.6 yards per carry paved way for the Fleet running back and the 20-point win over the San Antonio Commanders.

dark. Next. Texans need to target Adam Humphries
