With news coming from insiders that the Houston Texans are ready to face life without running back Arian Foster, it’s time to think about what the team will do in his absence. After being a perpetual top-five rushing team, Houston fell to 15th in the NFL without their star back for 12 games this past season.

Without him, Alfred Blue recorded just 3.8 yards per attempt and Chris Polk managed a measly 3.4 yards per rush. Only Jonathan Grimes was able to top the four yard per rush mark, usually the minimum expected of a lead back. He averaged 5.0 yards per attempt but only had 56 carries and was primarily used as a third-down back.
The lack of dominance in the run game means the team will most likely need a new top dog in the backfield, and that person may not currently be on the roster.

If they do decide to bring someone else in, free agency may be the best option as there are a few guys with some talent and experience set to hit the open market, which would free them up to use draft picks on a more pressing need.
