After the 2013 season ended, the speculation began, who would the Texans take at the top of the draft. Passionate Aggie fans clamored for Johnny Manziel. One fan going so far as to put a billboard pleading for the Texans to make the best Aggie quarterback in years a Texan. Others figured that the Texans would take Jadeveon Clowney. Boosting the defense once again. The drama played out with endless weeks of speculation on which player would go first. Would the Texans shock the world and grab someone else? Would the Texans trade away that first pick for more picks later in the draft?
It was quite annoying the level of chattering and angry talk over the water cooler. The story we all know ended with Clowney going first and Manziel off to the Dawg Pound to join the Cleveland Browns. So how are the respective players so central to the story line in April doing so far?

Manziel spent a lot of time making waves by hanging out with big name celebrities, doing a commercial or two. Partying like it was no ones business all the while saying he was going to be 100% ready to go come training camp. Clowney? Recovering from sports hernia surgery. Quite the difference. Manziel and his employers have had to deal with quite the media circus following him around. Personally I think he thrives on such, however one get’s the impression the Texans had no desire to deal with that.
Taking Clowney, and then learning he had been suffering from a sports hernia certainly didn’t give the warm fuzzy’s to the Texans or their fans. However, by all accounts Clowney is recovering nicely from the off season time under the knife and is making quick strides to be ready. One needed the knife, the other parties too much. Manziel, rightly or not is taking a lot of heat for a less than impressive performances so far this early in training camp. Much of it is due to the magnifying glass on him, however he did bring that on himself. I just hope he’s the Browns starter come November 16th. I’d love to see him face off against Clowney, then we’ll know which team got the better deal.
