Texans and Andre Johnson in “talks”.

The Texans management and coaching staff are sitting down with Andre Johnson to try and make a believer of him in this new process. One can only hope they succeed in convincing him to suit up and make magic again in Houston. The thought of Andre walking away as a fan is rather intolerable. However it’s his choice and one can sympathize with his frustration at being in a rebuild/reload situation once again at this stage of his career.
I don’t believe that the lack of a “top draft quarterback” is what is bothering Mr. Johnson, that’s not the way the tea leaves read. It’s “I’m 33, this team isn’t where it should be to make a run at the Super Bowl do I really want to go through this again?” I get that, so do most fans. The flip side is, he’s getting paid money most of us cannot imagine to play a sport, so buck up and deal with it. Crude, but true.
Can the Texans find a way to make Johnson stay, not just “hey play” but play with that fire that he’s had for all these years? That’s the real question and we all hope the answer to that is “yes”. The flipsides are they release him and eat tons of dead cash on the cap space, he retires or a trade happens. None of these have happy endings for the Texans or the fans.
