This past Sunday on NFL Networks Top 100 Players of 2011 the Houston Texans were once again represented. The Jaguars LB Kirk Morrison presentation of Vonta Leach at #65 is the second consecutive week in which a Houston Texan has been represented. Last week Mario Williams was profiled at #71.
There were no Kicker. Punters or Long Snappers to make this years list. Only one fullback made this years list and with the true fullback slowly becoming a thing of the past. For Leach to make the list says quite a bit about the fullback and his value amoungst his teammates and fellow players.
NFL Networks Top 100, #70-61:
70. Miles Austin, WR- Dallas Cowboys
69. John Abraham, DE- ATlanta Falcons
68. Antrel Rolle, S- N.Y. Giants
67. Brian Waters, G- K.C. Chiefs
66. Richard Seymour, DL- Oakland Raiders
65. Vonta Leach, FB- Houston Texans
64. Tamba Hali- K.C. Chiefs
63. Cameron Wake, DE- Miami Dolphins
62. Jerod Mayo, LB- New England Patriots
61. Brandon Marshall, WR- Miami Dolphins
Texans Wide Receiver, Andre Johsnon when asked about Vonta Leach being resigned by the team went as far as to say, “We had a 1,600-yard rusher, and I think that explains itself,” Johnson said about Arian Foster, who led the league in rushing. “He (Leach) does a great job. He’s very important to our offense, and he’s good on special teams, too.”
Vonta Leach should end up a free-agent once the NFL lockout is lifted. With team superstars such as Andre johnson and NFL ruhing leader Arian Foster lobbying for Leach’s return, couple that with the fact that Leach is a fan favorite here in Houston, it wouldn’t be wise for Bob McNair to let this traditional fullback walk away from Houston.
