Cal QB Davis Webb: ‘Double-digit teams have told me I’m a first-round guy’

Is Davis Webb good enough to go in the first round of this year’s NFL draft? He seems to think so.

This year’s NFL draft is full of good quarterbacks. It’s hard to say whether any of them are great or if they’ll ever be franchise quarterbacks at the NFL level.

Right now Cal quarterback Davis Webb isn’t projected to go in the first round, but it sounds like NFL teams are telling him otherwise.

After his pro day this past week, Webb told the media that at least 10 NFL teams told him he’s good enough to go in the first round.

"“I’ve talked to a lot of NFL people,” Webb said after the Golden Bears’ pro day workouts. “And double-digit teams have told me I’m a first-round guy.”“Every meeting [with an NFL team] I’ve had, they’ve said I’m one of the best quarterbacks on the board,” Webb said."

Webb threw for 4,295 yards, 37 touchdowns and 12 interceptions during his final season. He finished his college career at Cal with 9,852 yards, 83 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.

Here’s what Webb’s NFL.com draft profile says:

"System quarterback with more than 65 percent of his attempts coming inside of 10 yards. Webb has enough raw talent to be considered a developmental prospect, but his decision-making and accuracy issues beyond 10 yards is a big red flag that might be tough to overcome in the NFL."

I don’t see Webb being an option for the Houston Texans and head coach Bill O’Brien’s system.

O’Brien needs his quarterback to be accurate. Especially when throwing passes over 10 yards down field.

The Texans would be better off with taking Patrick Mahomes in the first round rather selecting someone like Webb in the second round or later.
