With ESPN’s Ed Werder reporting that the Cowboys don’t see RG3 as a fit, the Houston Texans could be his new desired landing spot in free agency

It’s become common knowledge that the Washington Redskins will be cutting the man they traded a bevy of picks to acquire second overall in 2012. After a hot start to his rookie season, quarterback Robert Griffin III has seen his career take a turn for the worse.

After two injury riddled seasons in the Nation’s Capital, Griffin was sidelined for all of 2015 by the team that mortgaged their future for his services. All this will culminate in Griffin heading out the door once the new league year starts in March.

News broke that following his release Griffin may want to return to Texas, the state where he was a star in college and high school. This made the Texans and the Dallas Cowboys became the favored landing spots.

Now it looks less likely that Dallas would be interested in the services of the former Baylor Bear, as ESPN’s Ed Werder reported that the coaching staff in Big D doesn’t think RG3 is a fit for them.

"“Not a lot of people in Dallas think he’s a great fit in Jason Garrett’s offense, and I’m told that Scott Linehan, the offensive coordinator, is really not a fan of RGIII’s and doesn’t think he would excel with what the Cowboys would ask him to do,” Werder said on NFL Live."

If Dallas is out of the running, does that mean Houston becomes the fall back option for RG3? It would make sense for him, especially considering in Dallas he would have been a backup, but in Houston it would seem only logical that he could beat out Brian Hoyer for the starting spot.

The question becomes, does Houston want Griffin? According to various media outlets, the team is not in the market for a veteran quarterback after trying Ryan Fitzpatrick in 2014 and Hoyer in 2015.

Still, for the Texans it could make sense to kick the tires on the 26-year old. He has had success in the NFL in the past and although his confidence is shaken by the failures in Washington, the skill an untapped potential can’t be denied.

Even so, Houston appears to want to draft their quarterback of the future, which means that RG3 most likely won’t find his way back to the Lone Star State.
