Finally, all of us will get so see what the No. 1 overall selection of the 2014 NFL Draft can do … at least in preseason play with Jadeveon Clowney earning the start against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday night.

I can’t wait to see Clowney at outside linebacker for the Texans, because the future is finally now for the Texans and Clowney.

I’m not expecting a lot from Clowney in preseason game one, but it will be interesting and exciting to see him on the field for the first time in a Texans uniform.

Plus … it is about time Texans fans have a reason to be excited, and we should refer to last season as BJC, meaning “Before Jadeveon Clowney.”

As for his upcoming regular season starting on Sept. 7 that is where I’m waiting to start to see the progression of Clowney from the collegiate game to the pros. By the end of the season I have no doubt, barring injury of course, that Clowney will be in the Rookie of the Year talk.

For his collegiate career at South Carolina (three seasons) Clowney had 85 solo tackles and 24 sacks. He finished with 130 total tackles (47 for loss) in his career.

Speaking of health … if the Texans can stay healthy this year on defense, I see no reason why the Texans can’t have a Top 10 defense again with new defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel.

What are you expecting for Clowney and the Texans’ defense this season?
