What if the Houston Texans trade the No. 1 pick?

The latest rumbling for the 2014 NFL draft is … the Houston Texans could trade the No. 1 overall selection to the Atlanta Falcons for their No. 6 pick this year, and a package of other picks.

Now the question is: What if the Texans were to trade the No. 1 pick to the Falcons … how would that change the face of the NFL Draft?

One scenario I’ve thought of is this is how the first six picks would look:

1. Atlanta Falcons: Jadeveon Clowney (DE)
2. St. Louis Rams: Greg Robinson (OT)
3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Sammy Watkins (WR)
4. Cleveland Browns: Johnny Manziel (QB)
5. Oakland Raiders: Mike Evans (WR)

Now for the Texans at the No. 6 overall selection … who will they select?

They could go quarterback or defense here. This pick could be quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater or Blake Bortles, or it could be linebacker Khalil Mack.

This is a scenario which could really happen if the Texans were to trade down … and I’m left sitting here scratching my head, because I like all three of these players.

If the Texans were to go QB with this selection, I’m somewhat split here because I think each have good and bad points.

I’ve had both as my No. 1 quarterback during this offseason and at one time felt both were deserving of being the No. 1 overall pick.

With all of that said, I believe the Texans can honestly wait for a quarterback in the second round.

Now that is out of the way, and if he’s available, the Texans should select Mack with the No. 6 pick if they were to make a trade with the Falcons for the overall first pick of this draft.

I believe Mack would be not only the best value here, but he’d be the other defensive powerhouse I’m looking for the Texans to add to pair up with J.J. Watt and Brian Cushing … plus if Cushing were to be injured again this season, what an insurance policy to have at linebacker.

We all watched how the defense played when opposing offenses could worry more about Watt when Cushing went down … adding Mack would be the best thing for this team to do if they were to make a trade.

There are plenty of talented QBs to be had in the second round and later rounds.

Thoughts? We want to know!
