Rumors of No Cro-martie to the Houston Texans

Yesterday on Sirius XM NFL Radio Antonio Cromartie was a guest and discussed his upcoming free agent status. Cromartie talks about being both anxious and excited by the whole free agency process and does mention the Houston Texans as a team that he believes needs a number one corner.

“I would love to be a Jet at the end of the day,” Cromartie said. “But I also want to go out and see what the market is and see what my value is. At the end of the day, to me there is no such thing as no hometown discount. I’m not giving anybody no hometown discount.”

Antonio Cromartie is definitely one of the top two or three corners on the open market and unless the safety postion truly is of more a concern than cornerback we don’t really see how you can eliminate Cromartie from being an option.

However on air radio personality and sports analyst for 1560 AM in Houston Lance Zierlein tweets that the “Texans are a LOCK to sign a top 5 CB’s on the free agent market. Rumor has it that Cromartie will not be one of their targets.”

While we don’t see how a team can already eliminate one of the top five players at a position of need. Especially when landing Nnamdi Asomugha will be no easy task, Jonathan Joseph possibly being given a lot of money by the Bengals who will have it to spend and Ike Taylor likely not being a good fit in Wade Phillips’ defense.

Next man up would be either Carlos Rogers or Richard Marshall. The Texans may end up getting exactly what they pay for if either of those guys are signed. In our opinion and the Texans would be better suited standing pat with Jason Allen.

So if all things mentioned above came to pass and Cromartie is truly out of the picture then Texans fans can get ready to welcome the fifth best cornerback on the market to Houston.
