Texans’ offensive line continues to hold the offense back

Continued struggles along the Houston Texans' offensive line are disrupting the passing game, stalling the run and making life difficult for C.J. Stroud.

The Houston Texans forced three turnovers against the Colts and held Jonathan Taylor to 68 rushing yards, and they still have a zero in the win column. The Texans are 0-3 for the second straight season, and unlike 2025, their issues seem to be too impactful to overcome. Everything starts in the trenches, and Houston has a problem up front.

The Texans' offensive line gave the offense almost no room to work against the Colts. David Montgomery led the team with 33 rushing yards on 11 carries. CJ Stroud was sacked three times, and he's taken the second-most sacks (10) of any QB in the league, behind only Baker Mayfield (13). The Texans' offensive line could make them miss the playoffs, and as Stroud is playing for a new contract, they could cost him millions.

Poor blocking is ruining the Texans' season

Houston dropped 31 points on the Bills in its 36-31 loss in week one, but the offense has gone downhill since. Wide receiver Nico Collins and guard Ed Ingram have missed the past two games. Collins' importance was already known before his injury. However, you could argue Ingram's absence has made a bigger impact.

The Texans ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns with Ingram in the lineup against the Bills. In two games without him, they've combined for 130 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Without Ingram, the interior of the Texans' offensive line has been a turnstile for opposing defenses.

The wide receivers behind Collins have struggled to gain traction in the offense. Tight end Dalton Schultz leads the team in receptions (19), targets (25) and yards (205). No other Texan has more than nine receptions this season. WR Xavier Hutchinson gets most of the action on the perimeter, but he hasn't been able to establish a connection with Stroud.

Luckily for Houston, head coach DeMeco Ryans said he is "hopeful" for the return of Collins and Ingram for the upcoming matchup against the Cowboys. Dallas (1-2) has one of the worst defenses in the league through the first three games, allowing 387 yards per game.

Whether Collins and/or Ingram returns, the Texans should be able to score against their intrastate rival. A loss to the Cowboys would mean it's time to panic, and Houston might be looking for a new offensive coordinator if it happens. General manager Nick Caserio and head coach DeMeco Ryans could also feel some heat on their seat, if they don't already..
