While I don't subscribe to the superstitious notion of "bulletin board material" that may be offered once or twice by unsuspecting players ahead of big matchups, I will acknowledge the proverbial "foot-in-the-mouth" that may happen on occasion (a statement made that unnecessarily raises expectations that one may or may not be able to meet in the long-term).
Buffalo Bills starting right tackle Spencer Brown might've just written a colossal check for his offense to have to cash this Sunday afternoon after some very specific comments were made in a press conference this week. Specifically, he made an emphatic statement about how he thought the Bills' offense would handle the Houston Texans' starting defense early on in the contest.
“I told Bradley [Chubb], I can’t wait for us to get the ball first, they’re gunna defer, we’re gonna go down there & score & I’m gonna sit on the bench & watch our defense play. I’m super excited to see what they can do, I think Jim Leonhard’s [defensive coordinator] got them in a good spot .”
These are pretty strong words on Brown's part, especially considering the level of dominance that the Texans' electric defense inflicted on Buffalo's offense through four quarters in week 12's 23-19 victory last season. Regardless, the temperature has just been turned up on the defense to make sure that Brown's words don't come to fruition when kickoff time comes this Sunday afternoon.

Not to continue reviving what's now an obselete performance metric (considering that was last year), but Houston's elite performance against quarterback Josh Allen and co. definitely still holds contextual value as a template for what could happen this weekend if the Texans have their way.
For reference, here is Allen's stat line (for the last time, genuinely) from the contest and how it compared to the rest of his 16 other starts:
- 23/34 (70.6% completion) (fifth-highest)
- 253 passing yards (sixth-highest)
- 7.4 passing average (11th)
- Zero touchdown passes (tied for worst)
- Two interceptions (tied for the most)
- Eight sacks (most)
- 67.4 Passer rating (worst)
- 20 rushing yards (fourth-lowest)
- Zero rushing touchdowns (tied for lowest)
- Four yards per carry (sixth-lowest)
While keeping in mind that Allen had just gone nuclear against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the week prior by being responsible for six touchdowns by himself (three passing, three rushing), the Texans thoroughly negated Allen from start to finish in their contest by comparison.
Being fair to Brown, he even admitted as much in another statement during the same press conference when he mentioned,
“For me personally, it can’t get much worse. I’m excited to go back down there and hopefully walk out with both of my shoulders intact."
No one should expect Brown to openly display any level of hesitance to face off against Houston's defense yet again. I actually also respect how confident he's projecting himself and his teammates to be en route to their third matchup against the Texans since 2024. However, the reality is that now the gauntlet has offically been laid down by Brown, and now its on that same defense to respond accordingly.
Save for Brown's shoulder's being in pain after the contest, here's looking forward to the Texans' defense forcing Brown and his squad to put their collective money where there mouths are (again).
