The 2023 NFL Draft will be the 22nd in Houston Texans history. Over the years, they found players who stood above the opposition. Andre Johnson became a four-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler. Mario Williams made it to four Pro Bowls, and J.J. Watt is a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Even head coach DeMeco Ryans made it to two Pro Bowls as a linebacker for the Texans.

But while the franchise had its share of hits, it also had some misses. They took prospects projected to have productive NFL careers because of their dominance in college football. Instead, they couldn’t translate their prowess to the pros. Sub-par performances and injuries hindered them from living up to the hype, making them draft busts.

Texans fans primarily discuss them for what could have been and not for what happened during their careers. Most of these players were taken in the first round, putting more weight on the expectations bestowed upon them. But as another draft weekend approaches, they serve as a reminder of the arduous task that is talent evaluation.
