In what's become weekly occurance for Houston Texan quarterback C.J. Stroud (again), the fourth-year signal caller just keeps answering the bell for his team. Week five was no different, as Stroud and co. marched into Nissan Stadium and handed the Tennessee Titans their worst loss of the season (and their fifth-straight) by way of a 26-3 drubbing.

Stroud was sensational in the contest, accounting for 261 passing yards while going 26/34 (76.5%), having a 107.6 passer rating and also punching in a two-yard rushing score (on a read-option!). His play helped catapult Houston to its first win of the season, which comes at a time where many around the city are sounding the alarms on what has looked like a potentially lost season.

C.J. Stroud continued his torrid play for the Houston Texans in 26-3 blowout of the Tennessee Titans

Stroud has been on a heater to start 2026, which was further evidenced by him completing yet another NFL football game in which he threw the football over 30-plus times, racked up over 250-plus yards and not having a single interception to show for it. In fact, it's now been 286 real-time days since Stroud has turned the football over through the air.

It's certainly not Stroud fault for why Houston took until week five to finally get in the win column, as his defense has blown multiple fourth-quarter leads in which Stroud and the offense had handed the unit a lead with roughly 2:00 left in ball games. But to his credit, Stroud has continued to say all the right things, support his teammates and offer to take on even more responsbility in the offense to make sure that his team has the best chance for success on a weekly basis.

Then you add in the fact that general manager Nick Caserio has officially added his former Ohio State running mate in wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., and you have a recipe for what could be Stroud's best season as a professional football player.

C.J. Stroud could be on his way to a career-best season if his pace continues

Saying that Stroud could have his "best season" is a pretty lofty thing to allege, considering we still regard Stroud's now-historic 2023 rookie season as one of the greatest seasons of its kind in NFL history. As a reminder, Stroud put up over 4,000-plus yards, over 20-plus touchdowns and only five interceptions in a campaign that resulted in the Texans winning the AFC South, blowing out the best-overall defense in the NFL in the Cleveland Browns in the AFC Wildcard round and even him winning the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.

Since then, Stroud has been on somewhat of a "chase" to recapture that form, with his last couple of seasons being considered "sub-par" compared to the elite standard he himself set as a rookie. Fast forward to today, and Stroud has been one of the main reasons why Houston hasn't been blown out by 30-plus in any of their four previous match ups, and he was one of the driving forces behind the Texans finally breaking through for their first victory over the Titans today.

Stroud is currently on a pace of 4,700 passing yards and a little over 20 touchdown passes, which would give him his best-overall statistical season in the NFL. If anything close to that happens, Caserio might as well get prepared to back up the proverbial Brinks truck to Stroud's personal residence, because Stroud's offseason gamble to bet on himself will have worked to absolute perfection.
