Houston Texans Fantasy Advice: Week 1 vs. Colts
Welcome to the Houston Texans fantasy advice. Each week we will recommend which players to play and which players to sit. We all love to see our favorite players perform well, and with fantasy football, we can feel a part of the game.
Which player or players on the Texans will be worth a start, or which player or players should you sit? Here are some suggestions for Week 1 when the Texans host the Colts on Sunday at NRG Stadium.
Start
Brandin Cooks – Wide Receiver
Brandin Cooks is wide receiver two (WR2) option this week. The Colts added Stephon Gilmore, a multiple-time All-Pro, so he’s an elite corner who should be covering Cooks in the season opener. Gilmore is another year older and most likely won’t keep up with the speed of Cooks.
The Archer is an excellent option for PPR this week and should be a good option for other formats. The pass defense of the Colts was already solid prior to adding a former Defensive Player of the Year, but Cooks will be looked at often by Texans quarterback Davis Mills and will produce regardless of the coverage.
Dameon Pierce – Running Back
The long-awaited debut of new Houston starting running back Dameon Pierce is here. Pierce has been skyrocketing up draft boards with high expectations for a good reason. Pierce dominated every touch in the preseason, and it is looking like he will have an immediate impact. The Colts’ run defense is solid, but Pierce and the Texans will run the ball a ton. Pierce may have over 20 touches if the score is close, and you can’t miss that opportunity. Pierce will be a solid flex option with an RB2 upside.
Sit
All Tight Ends
The Houston Texans tight end room is crowded, and for now, the starter is Pharoh Brown. Brevin Jordan has some upside with his receiving skills downfield, but Brown provides more protection with the focus on the run game. We can’t forget the new addition of OJ Howard, who may get into the game a few times to see what he can provide on the field. Until there is an established tight end, stay away from this unit.
Defense
The Texans’ defense looks to have improved leaps and bounds, but until we have seen them in action, do not start the defense. The Colts dominated the Texans last season. In two games, the Colts outscored the Texans 62-3, so stay away until the defense has proven itself.
