Will the most impactful rookie for the Houston Texans be playing on the offensive line?

The Houston Texans’ most impactful rookie could be on the offensive line in 2022 as that player is guard Kenyon Green, who was the 15th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

What is exciting for Green is when he’s healthy enough to be a full time player he’ll be in the starting lineup, and not only that, as a guard he’ll be playing alongside Laremy Tunsil as a left guard or next to Tytus Howard as a right guard.

Either way, Green will be an improvement from last season, even if he’s a rookie, and earlier this week Texans head coach Lovie Smith said the following about the rookie guard with comments provided by HoustonTexans.com:

"“Eventually we’ll get him out there. The biggest thing was to get him back into the mix. He missed a couple weeks, so we’ll gradually get him back into the full-time mix, but no issues, right on track. We’ll see how it goes.”"

It was reported Green suffered a concussion, so that is something which must be taken seriously, which is why the Texans are taking their time with the rookie offensive lineman.

Expectations are high for Texans guard Kenyon Green even as a rookie

When thinking about the offensive line of the Houston Texans for the 2022 season, it isn’t as bad of a unit as some might think. With the addition of Green to the mix this season he’ll be a huge upgrade over last season, and that’s exciting because his presence will make the rest of the offense better.

When Green was drafted by Houston this past April his NFL.com draft report said “Will Become Good Starter Within Two Years,” and the following in a draft report by Lance Zierlein:

"“While Green has some areas to improve, his run blocking can be dominant, which gives him a chance to become a good starter very quickly.”"

This may be the most exciting part of Green’s game and that’s his ability to be a “dominant run blocker,” because there is no other team in the league who needs a better run game than Houston.

Last year, the Texans rushed for 83.6 yards per game, with an average rush of 3.4 yards. In comparison opponents of the opponents of the Texans when facing them averaged 4.6 ypc. Also as a team Houston’s rushing game totaled just eight touchdowns.

Things must change for the Texans in ’22 when concerning their rushing game, and the addition of Green will do just that, and that makes him the most impactful rookie for the ’22 season of the Texans.
