It was a fun day for Texans QB Davis Mills as he appeared on The Pat McAfee Show earlier this week

Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills gained some national attention on Tuesday as he was a guest on The Pat McAfee Show, speaking on a number of topics, including learning Pep Hamilton’s offense from old Andrew Luck film.

There were some fun times on the appearance whether it be talking about Mills growing our a mustache, or when he was a kid earning a black belt in a form of martial arts. Though that was fun, the most interesting part of the interview was when Mills talked about working with offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton and continuing to learn the offense for the 2022 season.

Mills said at times Hamilton will play old film of former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck to show how the offense is supposed to be ran. Luck retired from the NFL before the start of the 2019 season, following a preseason game for Indianapolis.

It was a big surprise when Luck announced his retirement as he was one of the very best quarterbacks in the entire NFL at the time of his retirement. He’d played just six seasons after being the No. 1 overall pick in 2012.

Luck’s credentials were very good, as his Colts teams were 53-33 overall when he was the starting quarterback. Luck passed for 23,671 yards in those six seasons, with his only season not close to 4,000 passing yards being the year he was injured and played just seven games.

That’s how good Luck was for the Colts, and since then they’ve yet to find a replacement for the foreseeable future, though they are trying as former Falcons QB Matt Ryan is the new quarterback in Indianapolis.

Texans QB Mills can learn a lot from Hamilton going into 2022 season

Now for Mills and his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, here is the clip provided by the show via Twitter where Mills talked about watching Luck film, and learning from Hamilton:

Mills said it is exciting when Hamilton brings up the old Indianapolis film of Luck, and McAfee — who was a teammate of Luck with the Colts — said it was “smart.”

The Houston QB went on to say Hamilton has had a lot of success in his career and believes the offensive coordinator will “put everyone in good situations, and really good spots for themselves to execute at their highest level in that regard.”

This was a fun and good interview by Mills as the Texans keep preparing for the 2022 season. Houston has a preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 13 at NRG Stadium against the New Orleans Saints with a 7 p.m. CT kickoff.

Who knows how many snaps — if any — Mills will have in the preseason opener, but when he does get on the field for an extended period of time, that’s when the ’22 season will really jump to a high level of play and excitement.

Until then, this interview on The Pat McAfee Show was fun to watch, and gave us all a better glimpse into knowing more about the process of Mills being the starting quarterback of the Texans in ’22.
