This is the Dream Draft Scenario for the Houston Texans
By Jacob Burns
The selection: Kyle Hamilton (Saftey, Notre Dame)
Before you automatically scoff at the idea of taking a safety in round one, take a step back and at look at the prospect that is Kyle Hamilton. Referred to by analysts as a unicorn due to his sheer uniqueness and rare traits, Hamilton may be the best overall player in the entire draft. So sign the Houston Texans up for that.
The Notre Dame product is a freak. He’s a multiple All-American who totaled eight interceptions throughout his career. But Hamilton also fills a critical hole in Houston’s defense. After losing Justin Reid to free agency, safety is one of the weakest positions on the entire team. So Hamilton would automatically become a key contributor from day one.
Perhaps the biggest reason for the Notre Dame star joining Houston is his versatility. The Texans finished in the bottom six in total yards allowed per game and points allowed per game. Simply put, they need help everywhere.
The good news is Kyle Hamilton can play everywhere. His range makes him an obvious threat in the secondary. However, he also has the size at 6’4, 220lbs to be a force in the run game.
Adding Hamilton, along with Kayvon Thibodeaux, would instantly revamp a porous Texans defense. Now it’s just up to the draft board to fall that way.
