The latest move by the Houston Texans sends one of their starters hitting the road.

The 2020 season saw a lot of struggles by the cornerback group, as they were one of the worst pass defenses in the league at times. However, it turns out that the Houston Texans had seen enough from Terrance Mitchell, and they will be releasing him per Adam Schefter.

Mitchell allowed 59.2 percent of passes thrown his way to be completed, surrendering 556 yards and five touchdowns. Mitchell also had a career-worst eight missed tackles on the season.

All of that is on top of 60 total combined tackles (45 solo) and one interception.

Houston Texans now have more holes to fill with their release of Terrance Mitchell

With Mitchell now becoming a free agent, that leaves the following corners on the roster:

  • Desmond King
  • Tremon Smith
  • T.J. Green
  • Lonnie Johnson Jr.
  • Tavierre Thomas
  • Jimmy Moreland

The only one of the above players whose job is safe is Desmond King, who is the best out of the bunch if we’re going off of last year’s quality of play. The rest are wild cards, and only Caserio and Lovie Smith know the future of them.

This also opens up the question of drafting a cornerback at the third overall pick. A corner is just enough, if not more of a need, than the safety position. If Watson does get traded, a cornerback in return should be a part of the trade package. Houston could also use their second-round pick on a talented cornerback as well.

Mitchell was a 7th-round draft pick in 2014 by the Dallas Cowboys, and has also played for the Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs, and Cleveland Browns.

Next. These signings would make the AFC South a "Danger Zone". dark
