Scouting Report. Running Back. Texas A&M. 2. Pick Analysis. IsaiahSpiller. player. 873

The Houston Texans need a running back that is young and dependable, and a player who can change the pace of how the offense plays as that wasn’t the case this past season with the Texans having one of the worst rushing units in the NFL.

With this mock draft, we will assume Kenneth Walker III of Michigan State will already be off the board before the Texans pick at No. 37 overall, leaving another top-quality running back on the board and that is Isaiah Spiller of Texas A&M.

Spiller had consecutive 1,000-plus yard rushing seasons in ’20 (10 games) and ’21 (12 games), as his ’20 totals consisted of 1,036 yards with nine touchdowns, then in ’21 Spiller rushed for 1,011 yards and six touchdowns.

The A&M running back in 541 career rushes finished his career with 2,993 yards (25 touchdowns), while averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Spiller in his career also collected 74 receptions in three seasons for 585 yards receiving with one touchdown catch.

Spiller in each of his three seasons had no less than 20 receptions, so if the Texans could gain a pass-catching running back, who is also capable of a 1,000-yard season, then Spiller in the second round makes a great amount of sense.

The goal with this pick is to surround quarterback Davis Mills with as much talent as possible, and a solid running back would be a great start to that process in the ’22 NFL Draft.
