Hines Ward can parlay a great career into becoming the next Houston Texans head coach

Not sure if many saw this coming, but former Pittsburgh Steelers great Hines Ward interviewed for the head coaching job.

Now Ward doesn’t have much coaching experience. He interned with the Steelers in 2017 before joining the Jets as an offensive assistant in 2019. Ward currently works with Florida Atlantic University as a special assistant to the head coach.

While his coaching criteria can be questioned, there’s no doubt he would be respected in Houston’s locker room. Maybe that’s precisely what the team needs to turn things around.

As we reach the end, there’s one last candidate, who just happens to also be a former player.

Josh McCown is a longshot but still has a chance to be Houston’s leader

Could one of the least qualified candidates end up as the Houston Texans head coach? It’s tough to tell at this moment, but former NFL QB Josh McCown is back for his second year of interviewing with the Texans.

McCown’s only head coaching experience came at Myers Park High School in 2019. Still, that hasn’t deterred Houston from inquiring with the NFL veteran about coaching.

Now clearly, McCown has minimal qualifications. That being said, his 19 years as an NFL quarterback isn’t understated. He knows the game from a player’s perspective. His knowledge also could wind up being very valuable in the long run for Davis Mills.

This one, however, feels like a bit of a stretch. So if McCown is who you want as head coach, I’d temper expectations.
