Jonathon Gannon’s defensive experience can make him a favorite for the Houston Texans job.

Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon must’ve done something right in his first interview with Houston, as it’s reported the Texans are working on setting up a second interview.

Gannon was previously the defensive backs coach with Indianapolis, getting great results. Indianapolis finished in the top ten in total interceptions in each of his three seasons with the team (2018, 2019, and 2020). Gannon was part of the Colts’ rise as one of the better defenses in the league.

The history of getting results for Gannon should catch Houston’s eye. After allowing the sixth-most points per game last season, the Texans need defensive help. Gannon would step in and be a critical factor in getting that unit fixed. How Gannon would work alongside current defensive coordinator Lovie Smith will be something to watch if Gannon is hired.

Now it’s time to move on to the “inexperienced” candidates.
