Why Joe Lombardi is right for the Houston Texans HC gig

Could Chargers offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi eventually lead Houston to a Lombardi trophy? The Texans recently completed an interview with the grandson of legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi. But would Joe be able to turn the franchise around?

A respected coach in the league, Joe Lombardi had totaled ten years as New Orleans’ quarterback coach before joining the Chargers as offensive coordinator this past season. LA put up gaudy numbers on offense, averaging nearly 28 points per game (good for fifth-most in the league).

Along with that, second-year QB Justin Herbert found himself in the MVP after finishing near the top in many statistical categories, including passing yards and passing touchdowns. Lombardi’s work with quarterbacks such as Herbert and Drew Brees should give Texans fans hope on how Davis Mills would be developed.

The offense isn’t the only issue with Houston, however. It’s why the next candidate could find himself leading the Texans next year.
