Houston Texans WR Brandin Cooks showed he’s very good at catching TDs.
Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks showed once again why he deserved to be voted to the Pro Bowl this season, as his second-quarter touchdown reception put the Texans in the lead against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17.
Cooks’ touchdown reception – off an 8-yard throw by rookie quarterback Davis Mills – came just after the 2:00 warning on a third-and-goal play by the Texans, and though the play wasn’t a “highlight reel” play, it still counted for six points and left Houton ahead of the 49ers, who are battling for a spot in the NFC Playoffs.
The catch by Cooks saw him make the reception in the back of the end zone at Levi’s Stadium, as it was his sixth touchdown catch of the 2021 season. Below is the catch made by Cooks for six points, provided by @NFL Twitter with the game airing on CBS:
Once again, the more Mills improves as the quarterback of the Houston Texans, the better Cooks will be in games and on the stat sheet for those of you who are fantasy football fans and those who love studying stats.
That said, one of the reasons Mills is improving is the play of Cooks, and the Texans being smart enough to keep him on the roster, as they watch the progression of the rookie quarterback in the final stages of the season.
When the Texans were releasing and trading veteran players earlier this season, and when some teams had to be interested in Cooks at the trade deadline, the Texans made the choice to keep Cooks for the rest of this season, which has obviously made a difference with how Mills is playing at the end of the season.
How well Mills and Cooks play as a duo for the rest of the season will be fun to see, but at least in the second quarter they put the Texans on the scoreboard, which is all that can be asked for in the next to last week of the season.
