Vance Joseph has redeemed himself in Arizona. The Houston Texans should give him a call.

We all know that Vance Joseph’s first head coaching stint did not go very well, going 11-21 in two years as the Denver Broncos head coach.  Denver was in a Super Bowl hangover after winning Super Bowl L (technically, they called it “50”). Joseph is no stranger to the Houston Texans, spending time from 2011 to 2013 as the defensive backs coach.

During his time in Houston, his passing defense performed the following way:

  • 2011: 30th
  • 2012: 16th
  • 2013:: 3rd

That’s quite an improvement in yards allowed, and he’s had a positive impact on each team’s secondary no matter where he’s been.  Joseph has been with the Arizona Cardinals as the team’s defensive coordinator since 2019.

Each and every year, he’s improved that defense, including having his defensive line be fourth in the league in sacks in 2020 without their top pass rusher, Chandler Jones. Joseph’s scheme and skills to get the most out of lesser-known players make him a leading candidate for the Texans to call.

While interviewing Joseph during the Cardinals’ effort to get the best seed possible in the NFC playoffs is unlikely,  it’s as good of a choice as anyone that follows on this list.
