The Charles Omenihu trade is another low-performing move (D+)

File this as another move no one really saw coming. A young but promising player is gone to San Francisco, and that’s Charles Omenihu. This defensive line has slowly gotten better throughout the season, and it’s one of the reasons that Jonathan Greenard is among the top 5-6 pass rushers in terms of sacks on the year. The defensive line was one of the better units on the team for the Houston Texans.

Adam Schefter confirmed the 2023 6th round pick on Twitter yesterday, and Texans fans were not happy with how late that pick is as well. Another late-round pick that’s not involved in this year’s draft. It was one of those “stop me if you’ve heard this before”.

The real question is, what will these picks turn into? Are they going to be bundled together in an attempt to move up? If so, how far will a slew of late future-round draft picks really move the Texans up? Now this defense will have less depth with virtually half the season left.

Even Omenihu didn’t see this coming, as Aaron Wilson tweeted out. It’s just the latest move in the Texans’ attempted rebuild. Best wishes to Omenihu out west with the 49ers.
