Number one in the Rookie QB power rankings: Houston Texans QB Davis Mills
Before the “he’s a Houston Texans player, this is a homer-like pick” starts raining down, just take a look at the stats here. Mills outperformed the entire rookie class on Sunday and nearly took the Houston Texans to an upset win over the New England Patriots. In fact, Mills made Houston Texans and NFL history on Sunday.
Mills became the first rookie in league history to throw for 300 yards, 3 touchdowns and obtaining a passer rating of 140 or higher in a game. Mills had done such a great job, building a 22-9 lead in which the Patriots looked all but done.
Sadly, that wouldn’t be the case as the Patriots came back to win it with a last-second field goal. Regardless of the loss, Houston Texans fans should bask in the joy of what looked like a franchise quarterback on Sunday. One game doesn’t make a rookie campaign, but this is what the Houston Texans were hoping to get out of Mills when they selected him in the draft.
Mills’ next three opponents are Indianapolis and Arizona on the road and a date with Los Angeles Rams at home. With Laremy Tunsil out, this may be a tough ask for Mills to repeat in the coming weeks.
