Houston Texans turnover leads to Browns TD
The Houston Texans fumbled a punt, leading to a Cleveland Browns touchdown.
The defense of the Houston Texans came out strong with big plays against the Cleveland Browns, pressure and a sack of Baker Mayfield by Jacob Martin to force a punt. Then the special teams of the Texans erased all the positive by the defense with a muffed punt by Andre Roberts.
When the Browns punted on the fourth down caused by the Houston defense Roberts lost control of the ball, and Cleveland recovered the punt in Houston territory. A handful of plays later the Browns were celebrating in the end zone following a 1-yard run by Andy Janovich for the early 7-0 lead.
The fumble by Roberts was the first turnover by the Texans of the 2021 season as last week the Texans had zero turnovers. Miscues like the muffed punt by the Houston Texans happen, but that early in the game following a strong defensive stand can’t keep happening, especially against a team like the Browns.
That play hopefully won’t make or break the game, but Roberts was brought in to make the return team better in ’21 which will be the case for the most part for the remainder of the season.
As for the touchdown scored by Janovich, below is the highlight provided by NFL Twitter:
The Houston Texans special teams is better than this one moment of the game, but there is still work to be done, and from this point forward in Week 2 it would be best for this unit to play their best football.
Houston can’t give the Browns any more extra opportunities in Week 2 or it will haunt them on the road.
