The time is perfect for the Houston Texans to trade Deshaun Watson to the Dolphins.

What a wild Week 2 of NFL action it was involving the Houston Texans, and even the Miami Dolphins, as both teams saw their starting quarterbacks fall to injury, eventually leading to losses. Both teams have one thing in common though, and that’s quarterback Deshaun Watson.

For the Miami Dolphins they saw starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa be injured in the first half after a big hit to his ribs, forcing him out of the game as he was carted off the field. The Houston Texans saw starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor be injured with a hamstring issue following a touchdown run.

In the six-point run Taylor had to run his fastest to out-pace Cleveland Browns defensive standout Myles Garrett for the score. Davis Mills, the Texans rookie third round pick replaced Taylor in the second quarter in the 31-21 loss to Cleveland. Mills threw an interception and a touchdown pass.

All of that comes back to one player and that is Deshaun Watson because he’s still on the Texans’ 53-man roster, though for the first two games of the NFL season he’s been a non-injury inactive listing.

It is still doubtful Watson will ever play for the Texans again because he’s requested a trade, and is only around the team to avoid fines. The Dolphins are a team that has shown great interest in Deshaun Watson, and the quarterback has been rumored to be interested in playing for Miami.

It is time for the Dolphins to make this trade for Watson to happen.

The Dolphins have a lot of valuable draft capital, and if the injury to Tagovailoa is long-term, the Dolphins still have a chance to compete in the AFC East. They shouldn’t want to waste another year to win the division, so they might have to cave in to the trade demands of Texans general manager Nick Caserio, and add Watson to stay close to the Bills and Patriots in the division battle.

After Tagovailoa was injured the Dolphins eventually lost 35-0 to the Bills so they are already trailing in the division standings.

Deshaun Watson: Texans and Dolphins have had past talks for trade

It has been reported earlier this month the Texans and Dolphins almost had a potential deal, but the Texans want players and draft picks for the Top 5 caliber quarterback Watson, who was the NFL passing leader in ’20.

One lingering issue for Deshaun Watson and a trade by the Texans to Miami could be his off-the-field legal issues, but as of now the NFL has said very little to nothing about that, and he’s eligible to play. Maybe the Texans hold all the cards now because of the injury Tagovailoa, because rib injuries are nothing to rush.

Moving forward in any trade talks Caserio has to know he has all of the leverage, and many most likely believe he can and will work out a deal for Watson, and the leader in the clubhouse seems to be the Dolphins.

It would be a big win for the Texans if they can make a big deal for Watson, and if they can get a lot of top-tier draft capital it would be the biggest victory of the season for the Texans. Plus, it would give the Dolphins their first franchise quarterback since Dan Marino.
