Houston Texans: Season preview and predictions 2021
By Mitch Hill
WEEK 14
vs. Seattle Seahawks
- Date: Sunday, Dec. 12
- Time: noon CST
- TV: FOX
Russell Wilson and the Super Bowl hopeful Seattle Seahawks come to H-Town looking to improve on their already stellar record at this time. The pace at which the Seahawks play and the versatility of their offense will give the Texans plenty of problems coming into this one.
Prediction: Texans loss (4-9)
WEEK 15
at Jacksonville Jaguars
- Date: Sunday, Dec. 19
- Time: noon CST
- TV: CBS
Jacksonville will host the Texans as a very different team than their first meeting. Both teams will have similar records in this one, but the feeling in each locker room will be quite different. By this time of the year, the Jaguars will enjoy seeing Trevor Lawrence’s development while the Texans will still be questioning who will be their quarterback each week.
Prediction: Texans loss (4-10)
WEEK 16
vs. Los Angeles Chargers
- Date: Sunday, Dec. 26
- Time: noon CST
- TV: CBS
The 2020 Offensive Rookie of the Year, Justin Herbert rolls into Houston Texans territory looking to continue his successful sophomore campaign. What helps Herbert is the consistency of Austin Ekeler in the backfield which will open up both passing options and running lanes for the young quarterback.
With the Chargers offense having many weapons and ways to impact games, the Texans will surely have their hands full at home.
Prediction: Texans loss (4-11)
WEEK 17
at San Francisco 49ers
- Date: Sunday, Jan. 2
- Time: 3:05 p.m. CST
- TV: CBS
The big similarity between the Texans and the 49ers is each team is still unsure of who will be their starting quarterback at this point in the season. If the 49ers continue winning, look for Jimmy Garoppolo to be under center.
The key mismatch is tight end George Kittle going against a Texans defense, that by this point will be beaten down and the lack of consistency will show.
Prediction: Texans loss (4-12)
WEEK 18
vs. Tennessee Titans
- Date: Sunday, Jan. 9
- Time: noon CST
- TV: CBS
This is the final game of the season, and the Titans will have a steady hold on the division. The question will they choose to play their starters because they will still be in the hunt for playoff bye weeks and home-field advantage.
If the Titans play their backups to give rest to their starters, Houston may be able to squeak out a win to end the season, but that is a big “IF.”
Prediction: Texans loss (4-13)
It has been clearly stated that the 2021 season is process not result-driven for the Houston Texans. In simple terms, Houston is not likely to win many games. They are planning for the future, starting from the ground up, and expecting to lose many games this season.
A 4-13 record is a rough year, it is still unsure if that will end up being the worst in the NFL. One thing that will be clear is that the Houston Texans will have a Top 3 draft pick in next year’s draft for Culley and Caserio to use while continuing to rebuild the franchise.
