5 Takeaways from Texans preseason finale vs. Bucs
2. The Shaq Lawson experiment has failed the Houston Texans
When acquired from the Miami Dolphins, Shaq Lawson figured to be an important part of the Texans defense going into the future. His performance this preseason has left no doubt that he isn’t in the Houston Texans plans on defense.
The log jam in the defensive line room (which is as bad as the Houston-area rush hour) has also made Lawson expendable with countless players playing substantially better than him.
With Lawson playing late into the games, one can tell that this coaching staff isn’t impressed with what they’re seeing out of Lawson. His lack of effort is obvious. Almost like he’s mentally not in the game like he doesn’t want to be here.
That is not to say that Lawson isn’t talented, because he is and this may just not be a fit here in Houston for him. At what point does it stop being the system and start being the player?
With the way Lawson has looked for the Texans don’t be surprised if General Manager Nick Caserio looks to try to trade him by Tuesday.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Lawson is outright cut from this team. GIven how bad the state of Houston’s roster is, General Manager Nick Caserio needs to and will most likely continue to take those shots.
(Lawson was actually traded later in the day of this writing. For more on that move, please click here.)
