Davis Mills must capitalize on reps as the backup QB for the Houston Texans

The most important thing to watch all preseason long has been Davis Mills’ development in the offense. Mills still needs to adjust to the speed that exists on the NFL level, and with players like Devin White, Vita Vea, and Jason Pierre-Paul, they’re going to make life hell for Mills if not protected.

With the Buccaneers Head Coach Bruce Arians saying earlier this week that he expects to have the majority of his starters out there this Saturday it will be a good test for Mills progression from this week, and the lessons he learns from this final preseason game will be something he can reference down the road.

In their second game this past Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington. Mills looked more in control and calm until third down. The Texans went a combined 0-10 on third down as a team. They were blitzed a lot by Dallas and can expect more of that from Tampa Bay this week.

Mills’ talent is obvious when he isn’t pressured, as he can rip the ball downfield and looks the part of a hopeful starting NFL quarterback. Look for Mills to be more accurate this week and show more poise. He has it in all phases he just needs to put the puzzle together.
