Avery Williamson and the Houston Texans would be a great fit.

Avery Williamson placed inside the top 30 in tackles last season. While Cunningham led the league with 164, Williamson posted a nice 111 in his stat column. As to who he would start over, It’s Mercilus. Let’s be real here, Mercilus has been more of a hybrid/ “monster” linebacker who has not done much in pass defense in his career.

Mercilus only has 7 tipped passes in his career and two interceptions. Whereas Williamson is just slightly better with 9 tipped passes and 4 interceptions. That may be splitting hairs, but Williamson is more mobile than Mercilus to cover pass threats out of the backfield. Sacks are the only things Mercilus has to save him from Williamson taking his job (54 to Williamson’s 15.5)

He brings the same upside and motor as Mercilus and can give the Houston Texans a boost in pass defense. What’s not there to like about this potential move?
