Deshaun Watson makes Houston Texans training camp interesting
The Deshaun Watson saga with the Houston Texans is getting more interesting as it is being reported that the QB is actually reporting to training camp, even with his off-the-field issues and trade demand request.
You can officially say the training camp for the Houston Texans is going to be a bit wild as all the focus will now be geared towards a QB in Watson who doesn’t want to be with the organization, but is making a business decision so he won’t be fined by the team he works for.
Below is the tweet by ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter about the Deshaun Watson saga with his reported return to the Texans organization. Ed Werder of ESPN first reported the information:
It is understandable for the Houston Texans to still want Deshaun Watson at training camp. Take away all of his pending off-the-field issues and the Texans have a few options with Watson and what can happen.
The Texans could sit Watson and not use him at all in training camp as he doesn’t get fined and the team moves along. The Texans could also still be working on a trade of Deshaun Watson and want him to be in “football shape” for a potential trade partner like the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, or even the Miami Dolphins.
Houston could be even more outgoing and they and Watson work out their differences and he stays on as the quarterback for the franchise as he enters his fifth season with the team. This scenario seems doubtful, but again, football is a business and maybe the two parties will make a viable business decision.
Deshaun Watson: Will QB arriving at camp be a distraction?
The question that also comes to mind is will Deshaun Watson being at training camp become a distraction for the Texans? Will Watson even take any snaps or will the Texans work to get Tyrod Taylor and others ready for the 2021 NFL season? As it seems right now Taylor most likely will be the top quarterback option if fences aren’t mended with the NFL passing leader from 2020.
Again, for the Texans and Watson this could be a way to get the quarterback back on the football field and see what other teams are thinking about Watson. Either way, the Texans training camp of 2021 is now more interesting than ever.
If Deshaun Watson talks to the media at training camp it will be very interesting to hear what he says, and if he doesn’t talk, then that is probably what is expected.
The hope for the Houston Texans is this doesn’t mess up or put wrinkles into their preparation for the ’21 season, as they can’t afford to have any distractions while at camp. Remember they adding a new defense, and getting new quarterbacks prepared for Tim Kelly’s offense.
Basically the arrival of Deshaun Watson at Texans training camp is interesting and it will affect the franchise in some way, but we’ll all have to see if that is in a positive or negative manner.
