Round 4, Pick 121: Dyami Brown, WR, UNC

In today’s NFL, you can never have enough pass catchers. The 2021 draft class projects as another strong draft for the wide receiver position and Houston should take advantage of that. Dyami Brown may not be an elite athlete, but he produces at an exceptional level.

Brown had two 1,000 yard receiving seasons at North Carolina. As a sophomore in 2019, he caught 51 passes for 1,034 yards and 12 scores. He built off that with a stellar junior season in 2020, reeling in 55 passes for 1,099 yards and eight scores. On day three, Brown would pose as a very intriguing big-play threat as he averaged over 20 yards per reception as a sophomore and junior.

In all likelihood, Brown will spend most of his time in the NFL as an outside receiver. While it was mentioned that Brown may not be the absolute best athlete in this class, that’s still far from a weakness. Brown has some very impressive speed, which he frequently displays while running routes.

Throughout his three years at North Carolina, Brown has continued to improve as a route runner. He now boasts a very promising arsenal of route running skills, his ability to change speeds while working to get open especially stands out to me.

The biggest problem with Brown is his hands. Drops were a regular problem for him in Chapel Hill, and this will have to be fixed if he wants to become a starter at the next level. While Brown has fine height at 6-foot-1, he has a rather slender frame at just north of 180 pounds. The fear is that Brown’s problem of dropping the football could be exacerbated when taking hits from more physical NFL cornerbacks.
